Improving distribution operations: increasing capacity and throughput

< back

30th September 2020

The events of 2020 have created a consistently high level of demand for distribution companies, as people choose online purchasing over venturing to the shops. With the seasonal peak period for parcel delivery around the corner and a continued reluctance to purchase ‘in person’ as COVID-19 levels begin to rise, distribution companies will need to ensure they have sufficient capacity and processes in place to continue to operate effectively and safely while handling high volumes and meeting customer service expectations.

To support these demands, o&i consulting is finding itself going back to its parcel sector roots. Our company started out as a group of industrial engineering experts who specialised in the express parcel sector, having held senior positions at UPS. The team and its skills evolved and expanded to benefit the transportation and logistics industries; applying process engineering and operational research disciplines to enable our international client base to operate more efficiently. Current circumstances have led to a renewed need for our operations design and improvement services in distribution and logistics; we help clients to identify where operating issues are present, where there are opportunities to improve capacity and productivity, develop efficient new operations and work with clients to achieve the best solution for their business.

o&i consulting is currently providing a range of services to parcel and logistics sector clients including project management, system design, operational readiness and operational improvements to achieve efficiencies and make best use of existing capacity.
